Water recycling – Circular economy in action

During the 20th century, water consumption has raised by 800%. Unequally distributed on the earth, demand and supply of drinking water are still an issue in many regions of the world.
Even if many alternative solutions already exist to make water drinkable, wastewater reuse must be considered, whenever it is possible. For agriculture and industry of course, but also for human consumption.
Wastewater is the only water resource always available and of which volume increases proportionally to economic development and consumption. Then, why not using them?
Besides as water, wastewater can also be reused as energy, thanks to the transformation of the sludge into biogas, as heat or hot water with the use of the calories it contains; or as fertilizers thanks to anaerobic digestion processes.
