Biogas from waste: a renewable energy reservoir

Laogang is one of China's major landfills with an average capacity of 5,000 tons / day. With the city of Shanghai, we developed there a biogas recovery system which is a key solution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). Collected through tubes, biogas is routed to a cleaning facility to be prepared for combustion. It is then sent to eleven generators that produce up to 15 MW of electricity. In 2014, the site reduced its CO2 equivalent emissions by 520,000 tons and produced 104,000 MWh, which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of a city with a population of 150,000 or the amount of CO2 released by 25 or 30,000 vehicles in a year! Not bad for a natural alternative solution!
